IIHF World Girls Ice Hockey: Try Hockey for Free
On Saturday, October 17th, at Centene Community Ice Center, the St. Louis Blues celebrated IIHF World Girls' Ice Hockey Weekend with an All-Girls Try Hockey for Free session in partnership with the Chesterfield Lady Falcons and the Lady Cyclones.
Girls ages 4-14 had the opportunity to step onto the ice and experience the sport of hockey for the very first time. Participants learned the basics of the game, including stickhandling, passing, and shooting, with instruction from Blues Youth Hockey Coaches and players from local girls' hockey associations. By skating alongside these volunteer coaches in their association jerseys, the girls were able to see what opportunities the sport can offer and envision themselves continuing their hockey journey in the future.
Each participant received a free hockey stick and jersey to take home, making it easier to stay involved in the sport after the event. Throughout the session, the rink was filled with smiles, laughter, and excitement as the girls made lasting memories on the ice.
The St. Louis Blues remain committed to growing the girls' game throughout the St. Louis community, and events like these provide an important first step for young players discovering a passion for hockey.
